Use the browser extension

The Add to Bredbox browser extension is the fastest way to save links while you are already reading or browsing.

Install the extension

Extensions are available for Chrome, Firefox, Edge, and Brave.

Open bredbox.app/downloads — it’s also in the Downloads entry of your user menu.
The page highlights the extension for the browser you’re using. Click Download for Chrome (or Firefox, Edge, Brave) to open your browser’s extension store.
Add the extension, then pin it to your toolbar so it’s always one click away.
Click the extension button once and sign in to Bredbox when prompted.

Save the current page

Open the page you want to keep.
Click the Bredbox extension button.
A small Bredbox window opens and saves the page.
When it confirms, add a title, tags, Favorite, or Archive if you want them.
Click Save changes — or just close the window, and the page stays saved exactly as it was captured.

The window only appears once you are signed in. Before that, clicking the button starts the sign-in flow and then saves the page.

Edit a page you have already saved

Click the extension button on a page that is already in your library and the same window opens on Edit save, filled in with what Bredbox currently has:

Title — change it, or clear the field entirely to hand the title back to Bredbox’s own detection. The detected title reappears once Bredbox has processed the page.
Tags — build the list however you like:
- Type a tag and press Enter, comma, or Tab to add it.
- As you type, tags you already use are suggested — pick one with the arrow keys and Enter.
- Click the × on a tag to remove it.
Favorite and Archive — tick or untick either one.

Click Save changes to apply them, or Cancel to leave the save alone.

If your changes cannot be saved, the window stays open with everything you typed still in place so you can try again.

See whether a page is already saved

The extension button shows a small badge over the Bredbox logo for the page you’re looking at:

Plus badge — the page is not saved yet. Clicking saves it.
Green checkmark — the page is already in your library. Hovering reads “Already saved to Bredbox”, and clicking opens the editor for that save rather than saving it a second time.

A few details worth knowing:

Archived pages still count as saved. Archiving moves an item out of your Inbox but keeps it in your library, so the checkmark stays.
Trashed pages do not count as saved. Once a page is in Trash, the plus badge returns and you can save it again.
When in doubt, you see the plus badge. If you’re signed out or offline, or the status check doesn’t come back in time, the extension shows the plus badge and saving keeps working normally.
Each tab shows the badge for its own page, and switching tabs updates the button to match.
Changes made elsewhere can take a few minutes to appear. If you archive or trash a page in the web app, the extension may show the previous status for up to 30 minutes, or until you restart your browser.

If the extension cannot save a page

Try these fixes:

Refresh the page and try again.
Confirm you are signed in to Bredbox.
Check whether your browser has disabled the extension — see the permission note below.
Save the URL from the web app instead.

About the “read your browsing history” permission

The extension asks for the browser permission that lets it read the address of the tab you are viewing — shown as “Read your browsing history” in Chrome and Edge, and “Access browser tabs” in Firefox. It needs this only to check whether the page you’re on is already saved, so it can show the right badge.

If your browser disabled the extension after an update that added this permission, open your browser’s extensions page, accept the prompt for Bredbox, then click the extension button once and complete the sign-in.

The extension checks the active tab only, does not keep a record of the pages you visit, and reads page content only when you click to save. See the Privacy Policy for the full description.
